As a report in the Guardian newspaper toady says: “The combined cost of replacing the Trident nuclear missile system and building, equipping and running two large aircraft carriers will be as much as £130bn, far more than the government has admitted, an in-depth study of the huge defence projects reveals today.”

Add that to the welcome news that the missile defence shield based in Eastern Europe is being ditched (well until the Americans elect another bunch of Reagan/Bush nutters) and we can begin to hope that at long long last the folly of nuclear “deterrence” is finally coming to an end. We can hope but don’t hold your breath too long waiting. There is still much campaigning to be done on this issue and we can expect old cold-warriors like John Bolton to continue to oppose the moves.

Get on over to the CND website and add your name to the call for the end of Trident which has never ever been a good idea and is now a very very bad one.
